My weight loss journey
After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting, my weight fluctuated from a size 8 to 18 while I was teaching, driven by stress, exhaustion, and always putting myself at the bottom of my priority list.
Learning NLP completely changed that. It helped me understand the patterns behind my habits and taught me how to think differently about food, stress and self-care. I lost 55 pounds, not by “going on a diet,” but by changing the way I think.
The real success? I’ve sustained that weight loss for seven years.
I share everything I learned in my book The Mindset Diet, especially in the final chapter, “Beware the Creep,” which I wrote from my own experience of maintaining weight loss long after the initial transformation.
For me, it’s all about reframing, refocusing and rethinking — not just how you do food, but how you do you.
This isn’t a quick fix. It’s a lasting, empowering mindset shift.
Most importantly, I’ve maintained my weight through one of the most difficult years of my life — a time of deep stress and grief that, in the past, would have sent me straight back to old habits.

I was regularly on a diet right from my teenage years, and I 'lose 10 pounds in a week' strategies worked well for me until I hit my forties. At that point, I was working long hours as a school leader and was too tired and stressed to diet. I never had time to shop, let alone cook - or even eat! I inhaled food on the go and often went out for dinner or stuck a ready meal in the microwave. Self-care was not in my vocabulary. So I steadily gained weight and lost confidence in my appearance.
